October 10, 2015
The month of October was a really good wedding month for me. Three weekends back to back I travelled between New Providence, Bimini and home (Grand Bahama) capturing three very special wedding ceremonies.
I was contact by Yolanda little under a month before her wedding day and I will admit that the first few emails had me a little confused. I believe it was her second reply when she said that she would check with ‘her wife’ then get back to me. I immediately thought ‘… okay maybe this was a shared email address between husband & wife and maybe I’ve been talking to the husband the entire time.’ It wasn’t until maybe the following day that I received a call from the wedding planner at Resorts World Bimini who did explain that this was the first same sex wedding to be done on property. With absolutely no resistance I made it very clear that I was indeed comfortable with taking on this job and honestly my excitement grew even more. Not only was this going to be my first same sex wedding but it was also my first time at Resorts World. Yolanda and I soon started sharing different ideas and photos via Whatsapp and scheduled a Skype date. After an awesome Skype meeting with Maria & Yolanda I knew that their wedding day was going to be shear perfection. They were both very laid back and willing to make their day as smooth and memorable as possible.
Within a few weeks the day had finally arrived. From the moment I met their family and friends everyone was so loving and kind! I had the opportunity to meet and work alongside Carolina Bonnelly (Miami based cinematographer) who was a complete joy to work with.
What I’m sharing with you is just a small portion of a great day that truly reflected unconditional love and a total testament to marriage equality. I count it an honor to have been afforded such an opportunity.
